Ghosts! Murder! Elephants!
Explore 300 years of history in the oldest town in West Virginia on the Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk! Beautiful scenery and interesting architecture is the perfect backdrop for true, documented tales of strange and unusual history, Civil War happenings, unrequited love, and mysterious tales of ghosts and hauntings! And elephants you may ask? You'll find out all about that as it happens to be one of the strangest, most bizarre stories you're likely to hear anywhere! You'll walk the back streets of this charming, picturesque town and through gardens, churchyards, and cemeteries. History and the supernatural are in abundance here and you'll be intrigued, amused, and perhaps startled as you experience the mysteries of Shepherdstown firsthand! The tour is an easy stroll and is less than one mile of walking. Please allow approx. 1.5 hours to complete the tour. Admission is $15 per person. Reservations are required and must be made by calling 304-261-7470. Tours run every Saturday beginning April 7 at 7:00 pm. In June, the tours start at 8:00 pm. There is a minimum amount of at least 5 people required for a tour. If there is less than the minimum number of people required, the tour will be cancelled. A good pair of walking shoes and a flashlight is strongly recommended. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
Our tours are walking tours where the history and stories are shared while standing outside of the buildings.
